After years visiting pubs, brew pubs and other establishments I got to know a good thing when we saw it. While searching for an industrial business to satisfy my entrepreneurial spirit, I stumbled upon a troubled Brew Pub for sale less than an hour away from home.
Can you believe it! Less than an hour away. Well after my initial inquiries were rebuked, the place went under contract. Too my amazement it went back on the market a few short months later… Yes it was fraught with problems, both legal and financial, but the concept was good and the local customer base seemed committed. Why not buy it?
Of course my wife had some reservations, and we had many discussions, but it seemed like the right thing to do. Of course the country was experiencing the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. What was I thinking, buy a brew pub??? Real Beer??? Well, Yeah!
Now Covid has ravaged and divided our country and we are persisting hoping for better days ahead. Of course the pub has changed dramatically, staffing is difficult as many don’t want to work when they can collect unemployment. Others are genuinely scared to go out in public. Life must go on. UV air sanitizers have been installed in our HVAC system and our fresh air turn over in the pub is quite high due to the large volume of kitchen hood exhaust.
Our business is changing, takeout is increasingly important and we have a new online menu system and POS that can help. You can now purchase digital gift cards online. If you would like to have CBH meals delivered, CBH delivery is available through Grubhub. We are working on some dinners you can purchase and reheat when you are ready to eat. Of course canning our beers would be a real step forward, if we can pull it off.
